Gustav Tracchia (Proposed Flag for the Region of the Kingdom of Gibraltar, NAVA News [nav], Vol. XVIII, No. 3, May-June 1985 [PDF], p. 3 [tra85]) reports a proposed flag published in the Spanish magazine YA on 5 December 1984. Designed by Dr. Roberto Galan y de Bordallo, de Bas y Couque, this is the flag for the supposed "Kingdom of Gibraltar" that would encompass Gibraltar proper and the Spanish municipalities of Castellar de la Frontera, Jimena de la Frontera, La Linea de la Concepción, Los Barrios, San Roque and Tarifa. The symbolism of the proposed design is not given by the original author, who also devised a coat of arms, described in the original article (not reported by Tracchia). It was supposed to be included in the centre of the proposed flag, but was not shown in the flag illustration.
